Improving My Google Ranking - Some Tips that Helped me
How Do I Move My Website to Page One? How do I conquer the internet? One byte at a time! Here are a few tips for improving website ranking, moving higher in the organic listings (Organic listings, of course, refers to the free listings located below and to the left of the paid advertising). This is not a comprehensive list; just a few approaches that moved my website from the 13th page to the first page. You may require additional steps to achieve your results, based upon the industry you are involved in, the level of competition, the level of optimization for your site, and a hundred other variables.
Article Writing. My first approach, though not unique, is an often ignored medium. I was shocked by how quickly things changed after writing my first electronic article. Not a writer? Nonsense. If you are reading this article then you are savvy enough to write articles. Go to any article website and, since there is some variation between sites, read the author/editorial guideline page carefully. This is a small learning curve that any high school graduate can master. Not a high school graduate? That’s an article for another day. Submit your work to as many popular article outlets as possible. Also, write as many articles as your e-ink will allow. Link your articles back to your website, usually in the bio section of your article.
Writing Articles. Choose a title with important words (keywords from your website) in the title. Don’t stuff the title with more than six keywords. Study the topic on a search engine: “How to choose keywords for seo.” This will also help with your title, which is just as important as the article itself. Write an introductory paragraph saying what you are going to say, say it in the body of the article, then write a concluding paragraph saying what you just said. Put most of your best stories, jokes, attention getters, toward the front of the article, not at the end. Give away something of value in your article-useful, on-topic information. Don’t worry about how good the article is, just keep writing. The more you write the better you will get.
Web Referrals. In my office equipment repair business in San Luis Obsipo County I work with a great company that consistently ranks high on the internet. This company has given me many referrals for printer repairs and I am trying to get leads for their computer repair business. On my website I mentioned the fact that I work with this outstanding company and gave out their website URL. Two days later my site appeared on the first page of Google and Yahoo Search engines under the category of Printer Repair Arroyo Grande and Typewriter Repair Grover Beach. The first line of the ad talked about what I do and, and, in the smaller print, beneath the title, was a phrase describing the fact that I work with that outstanding computer repair company. In other words, search engines read the wording of my URL reference, then added that phrase to my organic listing. The spiders that roam the web, mapping out a larger portion of the internet for you, as they make these connections, really do pay attention to what is on your website.
Search Engine Criterion. Of course, your website must meet search engine criterion for web searching. Article writing and back-linking (linking articles you write to your website by including your web address in the bio section of your article) will help drive traffic to your website, but if search engines do not like your website you will slow down traffic, like dropping half empty paint cans on the freeway. For example, if you advertise toner cartridges in your titles and meta tags, don’t advertise lingerie in the body of your web page. Also, make sure your meta tag words appear in the body of your web pages. Meta tags are the keywords in your html head that search engine spiders use to determine the content of your website. Make it easy on the spiders.
Whether your business is a local health food store or internet marketing, be vigilant about your study of the internet. Make your presence known – spread your URL around with ezine articles. Be generous. Be willing to give away useful information about your products or services. Put your best stuff or attention getters toward the front. Reference those who have helped you. They will appreciate it and so will search engines. Make a search engine optimization (SEO) checklist, based on your study of the topic and do it ONE STEP AT A TIME. Finally, expect progress, not perfection.

More and more people are asking what search engine optimization is and what it’s all about. People who have websites either for Internet-based businesses or personal reasons all seem to understand that looking into search engine optimization as it’s called is a good idea, but not everyone seems to understand why.
Simply put, people all know how a well-built home is a good investment although only very few know how to build one properly.
It’s the same with search engine optimization; the sometimes complicated and ever-changing mathematical algorithms Google uses to rank the pages that fit any search description are encrypted and tucked away from all but the most savvy tech people, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few simple ideas that simplify the process so that business owners and recreational users alike understand why they need to hire the professionals who implement this technique.
[dropcap3 variation="primary_blue"]1[/dropcap3]Getting great business cards made up with just the right wording and graphics are all fine and well, but leaving them in the box they came in from the printer won’t get you any results. Having a professional website put together and just leaving it to its own devices on the web is the same idea. You need to work with the right content writer who understands how to use seo to alert the search engines every time someone searches for your goods and services. That’s the crux of how you get a better page ranking.
[dropcap3 variation="primary_blue"]2[/dropcap3] Seo is constantly changing to suit the changing web landscape. One of the biggest requirements is fresh content. You need to be sure that you’ve got a steady stream that alerts the search engines because they all look for fresh content and that’s the domain of the professional content writer because these experts keep on top of the tools of the trade like keyword placement and where the links go so you get the best results. Besides, most people don’t have the time to keep up with those demanding requirements.
[dropcap3 variation="primary_blue"]3[/dropcap3]Search engine optimization is not trendy. Unlike social media and even the latest trend toward using videos as a method to get some exposure, seo is like an anchor for all those other techniques because it deals directly with the frontlines in the Internet marketing battle—the message on your website. Regardless of whether you use the limited characters on Twitter or even Facebook, everything is pointing back to the foundation of your message which is the search engine optimized content on your website.
Sometimes when people see the leading words and phrases that light up and take you to another web page, they don’t always understand those conveniences are really part of the bigger search engine optimization picture and part of the researched and carefully laid out plans of a content writer that understands how to work these keywords and links to your best benefit.
When all is said and done, you need search engine optimization so that your website will get noticed and be able to compete on the web.

The 1989 movie Field of Dreams was a fantasy that used the phrase “If you build it, he will come!” which is sometimes misquoted as “If you build it, they will come.” In the movie, Kevin Costner built a baseball field because he thought that “Shoeless” Joe Jackson would return and once again play baseball in the field.
If you build a website will visitors come to your site? If you believe they will just because you have a website, then you, like the movie, are living a fantasy.
Today it takes more than just having a website to get visitors (potential customers) to come to your site.
You wouldn’t design a brochure or catalog and not mail it out to potential customers would you? No, of course not! Unfortunately, most website owners are doing just that with their site. They are not taking the proper steps to promote (market) their website and therefore are not getting the traffic they should.
Today, the Internet (specifically search engines) is the number one source that individuals use to look for products and services, even for local sources. Without properly promoting your website, you will be sitting in the stands waiting for the game to start.
So, what do you do? The following list gives some of the best proven ways to get significant, quality traffic to your website of potential customers looking for your products or services.
Search Engine Optimization
Writing Blog Articles
Submitting Articles to Article Websites
Using Social Media
Pay-Per-Click Advertising
The primary goal of a well established plan to promote (market) your website is to get your website listed high in the search engine results. Not just for the name of your company, but for keyword/phrases potential customers would search on when looking for your products or services.
This goal holds true whether you sell nationally or locally. With the search engines being the number one place individuals go to search for products or services; don’t you want your website to show up high in the search engines or do you want a “Website of Dreams?.”
Where do you start to promote your website? Most website owners lack the knowledge of how to properly promote their site, so the best staring point is to find an Internet Marketing company that has the experience to guide you.
